At the heart of the Brittany Breaks concept
is Moulin
Conan, our Breton farmhouse and mill. Set in seven
acres of wild woodland and meadows, in the valley of the
river Guic, the Moulin is an eighteenth Century
rural retreat where you can't help but relax and unwind.
The three-storey farmhouse and converted mill together comprise
seven twin-bedded rooms and five bathrooms.
The farmhouse (pictured
above), with its huge, open plan ground floor, is
used as the shared living space during the day. Here you
will find our main kitchen and breakfast area with open
fire, a separate dining area, and a sunken lounge with
a wood burner - the perfect place to read and relax.
Downstairs, in the cellar of the farmhouse is our games
room - with a pool table, table football, dart board and
telephone. From here a door opens out onto the river and
the millhouse.
The two-bedroom converted millhouse (pictured right) is
self-contained, with its own kitchen, bathroom, and living-room
with wood burner. We also have a self-contained twin-bedded
annexe with an en-suite bathroom - dubbed the 'honeymoon
suite' by some of our regular guests.
You can't help but relax when you are at Moulin Conan; in
the seven acres of ground around the house, where the river
Guic curls its way through the woodland, we have created
a nature trail, with nesting boxes and feeding tables to
attract the bird life.
Guests have seen otters, kingfishers, woodpeckers, nuthatches
and roe deer, as well as the rabbits that can often be seen
in our wild flower meadow.
The house is a short drive (or good walk) from the village
of Plougras and the town of Guerlesquin. The nearest city
is Morlaix. (Click
here for map).
Guerlesquin (Breton name: Gwirliskin) is a historic market
town. Also known as 'La Petite Ville Fleurie', its pretty
town square is full of wonderful old architecture - including
an ancient stone prison, still standing in the centre of
the town.
The town is full of life: the locals will often be found
out in the square playing Pétanque, and on Monday
mornings people flock to the Guerlesquin cattle market and
street market.
The town has a selection of shops and bars - including one
that serves a glass of Guiness as good as any you'd get in
Ireland - plus an excellent selection of restaurants. Guerlesquin's
creperie is the finest for miles around, and the town hotel
has a wonderful, traditional Breton menu.
On the edge of town is a vast reservoir (plan
d'eau) with
watersports, swimming beaches, a café bar and pedalos
for hire. The town has many other excellent facilities including
tennis courts and a horse-riding school.
Moulin Conan is situated on the edge of the Parc
d'Armorique - an area full of myths and legends, with
many breathtaking places to visit.
Why not visit the wild mountains and marshes of the Monts
D'Arrée, or rocky Huelgoat with its scenic woodland
walks amid huge granite boulders?
There are many historic towns such as Guingamp and Morlaix
that you might choose to visit. The sights, sounds and smells
of the food market beneath the magnificent Morlaix viaduct
are an experience not to be missed.
The famous Pink Granite Coast (Côte de Granit
Rose)
is well worth a visit, and the Breton coastline offers many
clean, fine sand beaches - as well as fantastic fresh sea
food markets.
There is no end to the list of wonderful places to explore
- and at the Moulin we have several guide books you can look
at to help you decide what sights to see.
On your Brittany Break all minibus travel is included in
the price of the holiday - plus the services of a tour guide
and driver along the way. We will happily suggest an itinerary
for you or be pleased to take you wherever you wish to go. |
